Starbucks sued by police officer over free coffee that burned him

A Raleigh police officer contends he and his wife have suffered physical, emotional and intimacy issues after a scalding coffee incident.

These are tough cases.  The allegation in the present lawsuit is that the Starbucks employee failed to secure the lid on tight prior to dispensing the cup of coffee to the patron who as burned.  The fact that the plaintiff is a police officer who received the coffee for free plays into potential “breach of warranty” claims for a potentially defective lid or cup.
