Mechanical Failure Traffic Accidents in California Can Be Negligence Requiring Compensation to the Victims

Mechanical failure traffic accidents in California can be deemed negligence requiring compensation to victims. Los Angeles Injury Attorney explains.

We all know that distracted driving and other human errors cause many traffic accidents every year in California.  However, there are also many other incidents where mechanical failure due to negligent maintenance or repair is to blame.   This can still entitle the victims who are injured or killed to compensation.

Federal judge appoints lead lawyers for Takata air bag cases

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Four plaintiffs’ lawyers, including high-profile attorney David Boies, were appointed by a federal judge on Tuesday to lead civil litigation against Takata Corp and several car manufacturers

It will be interesting to see how the class action litigation on the Takata airbag cases unfolds.  The appointment of “lead counsel” is an important first step in the process.  Takata air bags have injured or killed an estimated number of people in the thousands due to an apparent “cost saving” propellant that proved to be defective in exploding and sending shrapnel. As with most products liability claims, there have been both individual lawsuits and class action claims filed.  This type of litigation serves to make corporate defendants more cognizant of safety.

Is regeneration of a damaged spinal cord possible with epothilone?

Damage to the spinal cord rarely heals because the injured nerve cells fail to regenerate. The regrowth of their long nerve fibers is hindered by scar tissue and molecular processes inside the nerves. Scientists in now report that help might be on the way from an unexpected quarter.

Damage to the spinal cord rarely heals.  This is because of the nature of the nerve tissues involved and the fact that nerve fibers are hindered from regeneration by scar tissue and other factors.  This may be a breakthrough in the treatment of spinal trauma.

Should California Become First State in Nation to Require Adults to Wear Bike Helmets?

A proposed law that would make California the first state in the country to require that adult bike riders wear helmets has reignited a decades-long debate between regulators and the bicycling community over safety.

The State of California is considering passing legislation to mandate helmet use by adults riding bicycles.  Riders who fail to comply would face fines and citations.  If passed, CA would be the first state in the U.S. to require head gear for cyclists.  Some bicycle advocates in the Golden State say that this will discourage bicycle use by making it seem “more dangerous.”  As an attorney that represents bicycle riders who have been injured or killed as a result of crashes with motor vehicles, I personally think mandatory helmet use would be a good thing that could reduce serious injury or death.  Head trauma is the number one cause of catastrophic bodily harm and fatalities related to bike crashes.

Exploding e-cigarette: Man burned; bed set on fire

A Santa Ana man suffered burns to his face Monday after an electronic cigarette he was smoking exploded, sending shrapnel flying throughout his room and lighting his bed on fire, authorities said.

A man in Orange County California suffered major burns to his face when an e-cigarette exploded.  E-cigarettes have come onto the market in the last few years and are not regulated as much as other traditional smoking products.  It will be interesting to see if cases like this one result in products liability claims that modify how these devices are made and/or marketed.
