Hot Air Ballooning: Transcendent, Until You Break A Leg

Balloon rides for tourists or sightseeing is quite common especially in areas like Southern California.  Most people think they are safe and regulated and that it is standard to simply float for awhile and then gently land to the ground.  However, the stark reality is that ballooning accidents can and do happen and often result in serious injuries including fractures to legs and hips, head trauma and deaths.  In fact, the article points out that 83 percent of tourist hot air balloon crashes resulted in these types of catastrophic injury or killed a pilot or passenger or both.
