One of the major incidents which gives rise to this call for further scrutiny of charter bus companies is the tragedy in Yucaipa, California.  A bus there slid off the road and killed 7 passengers and the driver of another vehicle and scores more were injured.  It was later found that all six brakes were not well maintained with cracks in the drums or rotors. The bus line out of San Diego CA had several, prior citations but, was allowed to continue operating.
