Controversy is still brewing over McDonald’s hot coffee.
Why does McDonalds continue to serve its coffee at temperatures far in excess of any other retailer like Starbucks? In a word: greed. It is cheaper for them to brew and serve their java scalding hot than what is costs them in claims every year. In this case, you also have direct negligence on the part of the employee in failing to secure the lid prior to handing the coffee to a drive-thru patron. I hope they are hit with a significant punitive damages award this time that is not reduced. This is the only way, in my opinion. that they will change their protocols to protect consumers from suffering these devastating injuries.
