Pedestrian accidents up despite safety efforts

Despite efforts to make San Francisco streets safer for pedestrians, recent statistics show 946 people were hit by cars in 2012, 16 were killed.

Steven M. Sweat‘s insight:

The statistics on pedestrian accidents on the streets of San Francisco, California are frightening.  In 2012 there were:

  • 946 incidents of persons on foot being struck by motor vehicles
  • 16 traffic collision fatalities between motorists and pedestrians

I’m glad that articles like this one are bringing these stats to light.  We all need to think much more about slowing down and looking out for persons crossing roadways in and around crosswalks, intersections and even between crossings in our urban areas in California like the bay area, Los Angeles and San Diego.
