Toyota’s Pedestrian Detection System: Can It Fix Toyota’s Image Problem?

Last week, Prius owners sued Toyota over its pricey pre-collision safety system — a system dubbed such a complete flop that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety won’t even bother rating it.

Let’s face it, even with the recent “victory” in the first Toyota unintended acceleration case, they still have a black eye with consumers based upon the spate of recent product injury claims.  Developing technology that can reduce pedestrian mishaps may be a step towards improving their safety image.
