So-called “grooming” is a common and despicable technique that child sexual predators often use to obtain the trust of victims and their families. The children are lured with gifts and trips and eventually the perpetrator is able to obtain one on one access with the child and commit sexual assaults. Both criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits like this one are often the only means for the victims to stop the cycle of sexual abuse and gain some sense of justice.
