Daydream Driving Is Five Times More Common Than Texting or Talking and Just As Dangerous

It happens to all of us: Driving the same, familiar stretch of road, the mind starts to wander. But is driving while daydreaming putting you at serious risk for wrecking?

Steven M. Sweat‘s insight:

According to this article from Popular Mechanics magazine, letting your mind wander while you drive is one of the most common and most dangerous causes of car accidents.  What can you do to prevent this?

  • Keep your eyes moving and looking around you while driving.
  • Think about “what if” scenarios.  E.g. What if a car were to come into your lane, what would you do?
  • Use different routes to drive to work so you “mix it up”.
  • Apparently, even chewing gum helps!!
