The obvious dangers of texting while driving have been the focus of nationwide public service announcements, but now the dangers of distracted walking are coming to the forefront.
This is a major problem especially in urban areas. Pedestrian accidents in Los Angeles don’t have just one cause but, many of them every year can be attributed in whole or in part to distracted walking. While California Vehicle Code section 21950 does require drivers to yield to right of way to pedestrians, it goes on to state that the law “does not relieve from the duty of using due care.”
